EXPERIENCE
Charles L. Travis III, FAIA has been a long-term advocate for the art, craft and technology of housing practice, dedicating his career to formulating housing design strategies that are both economically and environmentally sustainable. His work has resulted in applicable solutions for the challenges housing projects bring to owners, communities and infrastructure. Numerous design awards, including multiple AIA awards, a traveling fellowship, and over thirty multi-family industry awards, attest to the impact his work as had on suburban communities, high-rise condominiums, historic renovations, and single-family homes.

In 2010, Chuck received the AIA Charlotte Service Award in recognition of his extraordinary service to the community and profession. Chuck has lectured on housing design trends to national and international audiences and continues to serve as a frequent juror to academic housing studios and award committees. Currently Mayor of Cornelius, North Carolina, Chuck has worked to establish an Architectural Review Board and co-authored guidelines for the preservation of the town's historic residential district.

EXPERIENCE
Mike has been with the Housing Studio since its inception. His multi-family experience has involved projects ranging from garden apartments to historic restoration to high-rise construction. His projects have been built in numerous markets, including Washington, Charlotte, Tampa & Jacksonville. Mike holds relationships in the highest regard and strives to create a cohesive team on every project, including client, contractor and consultants. His goal is to always create not only successful projects, but also successful long-term relationships/ Mike is a member of the American Institute of Architects. Staff and office management are among Mike's points of emphasis as a Senior Associate at the Housing Studio.

Chad Askew

EXPERIENCE
Chad has experience with numerous multi-family and mixed-use projects through his work with the Housing Studio and FMK Architects. He has worked on large scale projects primarily in the Charlotte, Raleigh, Washington & Indianapolis markets. He is passionate about creating projects with a real sense of place, regardless of the style of architecture. Chad is a member of the American Institute of Architects and has received his Construction Document Technologist certification from the Construction Specifications Institute. While active in all facets of project, one of Chad's primary areas of emphasis as a Senior Associate is client relationships, development and marketing.

Rick Kamakaris

EXPERIENCE
The majority of Rick’s work experience has been in multi-family and mixed use architecture. His projects span the various scales and typologies of this specialized sector of design from large urban infill sites to less dense suburban garden style projects primarily in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states. He believes that each project is unique and should respond to the context and history of the communities in which they are to be built. He is also an advocate for incorporating technology into the practice of architecture to improve design and coordination to provide the best possible product for our clients. Rick is a member of the AIA and sits on the Architectural Review Board for the town of Cornelius, NC where he resides with his wife and two daughters. As a Senior Associate, in addition to managing projects and participating in the schematic design phase, he manages the IT infrastructure & assets and digital operations of the design and production staff (he plugs in the computers and makes sure that they work right…).
